What's your secret backpacking food? It IS all about the food, right?

Gingersnaps (pretty hearty little cookies) and hot tea (any flavor)...and thanks Aaron for informing about Mountain House's Chili Mac, a very delish dinner :)

    I'll second the chili mac.

I do love the taste of Jerky at a summit!

So far, my secret has been not to cook much.  Admittedly, I've only been out a few times, but I didn't enjoy the clean-up or the prep time of normal cooking.  (You're not supposed to wash dishes anywhere near a stream...)  So I just fire up the jetboil and add hot water to freeze-dried foods.  All I need is a long spork to keep my hands clean while eating out of the pouch!  Does anyone know where to find one?  REI has a long spoon, but it's not the same!  When finished, I just zip up the pouch and pack it out.
Someday I'll branch out and get into some more gourmet cooking, but not until I master some of the other skills of backpacking.

It's a long handled titanium spoon, not a spork, but I love mine:

It's $14 at backpackinglight.com. Before you scoff at the price consider that it will last you your entire backpacking career and will be the one heirloom your hiking grandkids will cherish. And if you're not yet a subscriber to backpackinglight.com I highly recommend becoming one. It's a tremendous resource for gear ideas and tecniques that will get your pack weight down and your comfort level up. A fantastic site.

Go to Dollar Tree and look for the spoon-foot party straws. 6 of them for $1. Take them home and seal the tube ends with silicone sealer. They are perfect for freezer-bag eating and they last for a very long time.

Spoon foot party straws?  Are those like the ones that come with an Icee?

REI has what looks like the same spoon, but I really wanted a spork!  I may break down and buy the spoon, though.  No one seems to have exactly what I'm looking for.

I was sent one of the longer spoons directly from the manufacturer (along with several of their other items), but I have yet to use it. If you need a really long spoon it should do the trick.
