On a drive back home today, I came across a trailhead marked Coffin Butte. It was a short hike to the summit, only .84 miles, so I decided to add this to my day's worth of hiking. There's nothing to really report here but there were fields of wildflowers and of course poison oak. After about .75 miles I was basically walking with my head in the clouds when I heard a rustle in the bushes, then a loud screech, and out came this really angry turkey!! It was very angry at me for being there, and as I tried to get out of it's way, she bit me on the leg and then proceeded to chase me, hissing, and wings out, for about 30 ft. All I did was run, kind of laughing. I didn't bother to try to defend myself, although she had no idea I could of eaten her for dinner. I just kept going, and thinking of how I was going to get back. She wasn't there on the way back. She was probably in the trees plotting my demise. This adventure got me some good pics of some wild flowers, and 3 stitches. Beware of angry turkies!!

Rattlesnakes, cougars, bears, scorpions and now turkeys!

When will it end?!  Big Smile

Wow Jewelle, what an experience. She must have had babies nearby. That's a great little hike as long as the wind is blowing in the right direction. Sometimes the landfill odors are overwhelming.

Did you see the clever turkey guzzler up there? I think the boyscouts put it in.

Is it this little shack like thing? I was wondering of it was something like that. I read that this was an area for hunting? I couldn't believe that.
