Here's an idea for a treat that I found on The Lightweight Backpacker. It basically would involve mixing the batter in a plastic bag (add water, be sure the bag is well-sealed (!), then knead it gently until the ingredients are mixed) and having something with which to grease the can. I plan to try this next August when the huckleberries ripen! Credit for the quote and photos below goes to TLB poster "Mugs."

    -----------------------
"I cut a soda can two inches from the bottom (which is half the height of my [Snowpeak] 600 [Ti mug]) and and made up some Krusteaz pancake mix just to see if it would work, plus I don't have any bisquit mix. Any way I buttered the can real well and then filled it up about half way with mix. Next I filled my mug with some rocks that were about 1/2 in tall or so and added 2 ounces of water. Filled my alcy stove with an ounce of fuel and began the test. I let the water steam all the way out which took about 7:45 min. As a result I had a nice fluffy bisquit/pancake. YOOHOOO now I can make a bisquit in the mountains and have it with my chili, soup, or what ever. Or make one of the pancake ones and take along some pb and jelly."

    -------------------------

Muffin mix should also work well, the main problem being to figure out the proper amount of mix per single muffin. I'll do some experimenting and let you know later. One poster also suggested using a foil muffin cup instead of a pop can. That would be safer--the cut edges of a pop can are mighty sharp!
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.--E.Abbey
