    I usually take my trusty Dakine pack with the 100 ounce water resevoir, although if it's going to be a shorter hike I'll only fill it half full.

    Turkey sandwich (Sometimes just the Turkey) or Piece of Chicken

    Trail mix nuts of somekind

    Granola Bars

    Yogurt

    Sometimes a Snickers bar if the hike is going to be long and steep and a reward is needed!

    Always somekind of fruit, Apples pack better, but I LOVE to take grapes

    Sliced Cheese and Ritz Crackers or those Flavorful Trisket ones, cracked pepper and olive oil

    I often come home with half the food, but the day I planned my Trapper Creek Hike and guessed 6 hours and it turned into a 10 hour hike....I was glad to have plenty of food.

    I also always have my Advil and extra Sugar tablets for my diabetes, along with my test kit, just in case, and some extra medication just in case I had to spend the night unplanned.

    Good idea, Meana--for anyone who takes medication for a life-threatening condition, it's an excellent idea to bring along enough in case you're stuck out overnight. The 16th of the "Ten" Essentials!

    I always end up bringing dried apricots--the Turkish variety, unsulphured, that the former Wild Oats (now part of Whole Paycheck) carries in bulk. And, often, the traditional PB & J sandwich, made with Adams peanut butter of course.

    I know I got a bit off subject from all those yummie food choices to the "Ten" essentials, but food made me think of the sugar pills....ect....my mind wanders as much as my feet sometimes!

    Now I have a lot more food ideas to try out on a hike! Thanks everyone!

    Zach, you remind me of me in my youth: I once climbed a 14ner (14,000ft mountain) in the Rockies on nothing but a granola bar and half a Nalgene of water. I guess I was so excited to be there, I kinda forgot about nourishment.

    Later that evening, however, a frozen pizza disappeared from my kitchen and it was said that I had incriminating pepperoni breath.

    Is there such a thing as POST-carbo-loading?

    lol...yeah, I don't give a lot of thought to food for day-trips.  Sometimes I don't even pack any food.  So long as I have a waterbottle I'm good.  I can definately empathize with the post-carboloading though!
