SR A2.5 (Wed) Jul 02 - First Ever - Vancouver, WA. Street Ramble. Kibbey Rock (360)-694-5942. Walk up and down hills in Vancouver, WA. We’ll go at a slightly more than moderate pace starting at 6pm and will be done close to 8pm. Please sign-in starting 5:45 p.m. We’ll leave at 6 p.m. promptly. We should cover about six miles with 500 ft of elevation gained. Meet in front of parking lot at Fort Vancouver Site, 1001 5th St., Vancouver, WA. Park on road outside the gate as their parking lot closes at 5p.m

Tom Davidson Pre Hike to Summit Learn why this unmaintained trail is also called the Fire Escape. Straight-up through a talus field located just one-half mile east of Multnomah Falls. Lots of moss-covered rocks and some poison oak. Stunning viewpoint(s) and optional scramble up Big Cougar Rock. Lunch at great overlook of Gorge with our own water bubbler. andrew@bodien.org Fri, July 4 - Adventure Hike: Silver Star Mountain & Sturgeon Rock Loop hike from Grouse Vista with several adventurous detours along the way. We’ll scramble Pyramid Rock and check out the grassy ridge north of there and continue on up to the summit for wildflowers and 360-degree views. We’ll take an alternate route on the descent stopping off briefly to tag our second summit of the day: the impressive looking Sturgeon Rock. Participants should be prepared for some off-trail travel, scrambling and potential bushwhacking. We may be hiking on snow. 10>3000^Dr-70. TH Pass. July 4-6 (Fri-Sun) Independence Day at Nesika
On the 4th we will enjoy an exceptional menu of delicious recipes from the Rio Cliente Spa (near Guadalajara Mexico). The dishes are basically vegetarian but with the addition of fish. The menu also includes loads of fresh fruits and vegetables. Plan to stay over for the special breakfast on Saturday. The cost for the two meals is approximately $8.00.The lodge will continue to be open and we have a cook/host for Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast.
Reservation deadline July 1st. Meet: At the Palmer Mill Road gate at 9:30 am on the 4th.

Moderate Backpack in Northern California. Drive is approximately 400 miles each way. Start at the Swift Creek Trailhead (camp night of July 5 at Preachers Meadow car camp?)
Day one- Hike 5 miles to Granite Lake (6000 feet). Day two- Explore the Granite Lake are, swim? The next two night's location will depend on snow level. Day three- Hike with pack to Summit Lake. Explore Climb if desire? Day four - Hike with pack to the Black Basin trail on the Bear Basin Trail. Will go by Diamond, Luella Lakes. Day five- hike out on Bear Basin Trail (5 miles or so). Either drive home or go to Weaverville to Spend night. An alternative itinerary would be to spend night 3 and 4 near the Black basin trail and do day hikes up to the lake basin and another hike to Mumford Meadow and Landers Lake. Join us any July or August Tuesday evening for a 2 - 3 mile "Sierra City Stroll." We'll walk through popular areas like NW 23rd Street, the Pearl District and explore close in city parks and trails. After our walk we can sample neighborhood cusine depending upon interest. Meet us no later than 6:00 p.m. at the Portland Goose Hollow/Jefferson Max stop at 19th and Jefferson. July 4-6 (Fri-Sun); OIympic National Park Backpack;
Moderate/20-27 miles/3,2000ft minimum gain. Ancient forest, mountain scenery and hungry bears come together to make gentle adventures for hikers visiting the Staircase area of Olympic National Park. This easygoing backpack is contingent upon conditions and the reopening of the Staircase Road (slated for July 1). Both trip possibilities (Flapjack Lakes or Home Sweet Home) are out-and-back routes that start along the North Fork Skokomish River and feature two nights of basecamping with a day of alpine exploration. Requires previous backpacking experience and current conditioning. Participants carpool from Portland Thursday PM and camp near the trailhead for a Friday AM departure. From tracker Tom Brown to paleontologist Paul Martin, we'll explore and discuss them all during a leisurely-paced hike. Flowers will be at their exuberant peak and there are 360 degree views of the Cascades from Mt. Rainier to Three Sisters. Meet at 8 AM, back around 8 PM (Sunrise: 5:29 AM Sunset: 9:02 PM). Let’s continue an ONC tradition—bike the San Juan Islands on July 4th weekend. Explore the islands—on San Juan we’ll visit English Camp and American Camp in the National Historical Park, savor the fragrance at the lavender farm and watch the orcas at the Whale Watch Park; on Lopez—spy on the seals at Shark Reef Sanctuary, beachcomb at Spencer Spit; on Orcas—take the challenging ride up Mt. Constitution, or take a shorter ride to the pottery galleries; on Shaw—explore the first post office, a log cabin and have locally made ice cream while waiting for the ferry. Remember to catch a glimpse of the camel on San Juan Island as you ride to the campground!

Directions: North on I-205, east on Hwy 14, north on second exit or 192nd. Turn right at traffic ligh on SE 1st and it will turn into Lake Road for a couple miles until boat ramp acess parking lot on the left. Moose Lodge is too far - turn back.
